Due to cleft lip and palate, an affected baby has a gap on the upper lip and an open inside the mouth into the nose. Thus, he may easily choke and swallow a large amount of air while feeding that may cause vomiting more frequently than other babies. Besides, he may lack of suction and has trouble feeding. All these problems make both the baby and the parent feel frustrated.
This service is designed for parents of newborn cleft lip and palate babies. Experienced parents will give guidance on feeding method, tips and precautions. Parents are welcome to bring their babies to the association to learn and practise feeding so as to master the skills.
